Criminal Investigation

Organized crime is defined as a group with a formal structure whose primary activity is to obtain money through illegal activities. It affects ordinary citizens by disrupting the economy, causing neighborhood violence, and corrupting law enforcement officials.

Respond to the following:

• Choose one of the activities of organized crime and briefly describe it in your own words. Give an example that is different from the textbook.
• In your view, what can be done to prevent and reduce organized crime? Give one or two examples and tell why you think they would be effective.
• In your view, has organized crime been glorified through television shows such as “The Sopranos” and “Breaking Bad”? How have these shows changed our views of both the criminals and their victims? Be specific.
