Critical race theory

  • My topic is Critical race theory
  •
  • A thesis statement stating your opinion/conclusion on the issue, the supporting points you will offer and at least one relevant opposing view you will address.
  • An annotated bibliography with evaluation of at least five (5) sources you intend to use in your final paper to support your claim.
    • These are sources that provide evidence to support that your claim should be accepted by the reader.
    • Scholarly sources are preferred and should be used where available; due to the nature of some of the topics, authoritative articles in very high quality substantive journals may also be acceptable.

Use the Source Evaluation Worksheet to determine the following:

  • If your source is current
    • If it is not current, explain why you think it is acceptable.
  • If your source is credible, reliable, and authoritative
  • How well your source supports your thesis
    • If the annotation does not make this obvious, explain to your instructor how you will use it.
  • If your support is popular
    • If it is, explain to your instructor why you think it is acceptable.

Prepare a citation, annotation, and evaluation for each source.

Critical Race Theory

PLEASE answer this question

This week you continue to work on your paper that addresses a current controversial issue. This paper is to be in the form of an argument. You have selected a topic and chosen issues related to that topic; this week, you will thoroughly research both sides of the issues you have chosen. Keep in mind that your paper must define the issue, present evidence on both sides of the issue, and then argue that one side is stronger and more persuasive than the other. Your paper must address at least three relevant aspects of the issue. More specific directions for each part of the paper will be found within the specific assignment in the weekly modules; the assignment this week is to research both the pro and con sides of the issues you have chosen to address.

The Issue: Whether incorporating critical race theory in the U.S. educational curricula is essential or it will deter students’ comprehension of racism, race, and social justice.

Three Aspects of the Issue

The first aspect is the concepts and fundamental principles of critical race theory. Critical race theory identifies that systemic racism is a primary segment of the American community and critiques the beliefs that enable racism to flourish (Delgado & Stefancic, 2023). Critical race theory is an educational concept and an approach to challenge a history of White supremacy. The theory offers a framework of legal evaluation based on which the legal and law institutions in the U.S. are dominantly racist as they function to develop and sustain political, social, and economic inequalities between whites and people from other racial groups. Also, the theory identifies that race is a culturally designed classification utilized to oppress the Black community (Delgado & Stefancic, 2023). Critical race theory is essential since it offers a more practical comprehension of white racism in America. Racism in the U.S. includes the body of legal practices and laws whose real-world impact is the oppression of other racial groups, particularly African Americans. I selected this aspect to offer a precise comprehension of aspects of critical race theory.

The subsequent aspect is the effect of critical race theory on learner’s comprehension and social justice. Critical race theory is among the theoretical frameworks employed in ethnic studies to educate and fight against entrenched racism (Montano & Gallagher-Geurtsen, 2022). When utilized in learning, it addressed the deep-rooted and well-documented injustice through racism in learning. Critical race theory is taught in schools and used to interrupt the myth that policies, educational decisions, and practices are centered on neutrality or objectivity. Students may challenge the effect of systems that maintain racist practices and policies and participate in social justice activities to reform those racist structures (Montano & Gallagher-Geurtsen, 2022). I selected this aspect to explore the practice implications of including critical race theory in education.

The third aspect is the debate on critical race theory inclusion in education. Critical race theory and inclusive education have been a concern in the public field in the past years (Easton-Brooks, 2021). There have been diverse perspectives on critical race theory inclusion in education, with many people supporting it while others opposing its inclusion to bring diversity in classroom settings. Critical race theory employs a critical assessment of policies, laws, practices, and norms to develop conscious and subconscious hindrances that exclude individuals centered on ethnicity and race. Many oppose its inclusion since they believe that it focuses on eradicating whiteness. However, the critical race theory does not eradicate whiteness and its effect on American society or history (Easton-Brooks, 2021). I selected this aspect to investigate the debates for and against critical race theory inclusion and its possible effect on learners’ comprehension of ethnicity and racism.
