During this course we will study how to effectively assess and audit management systems for any type or organization. Thus when answering the questions below, please answer them in context of a particular organization. The type of organization you choose in this module will be used for the next several modules so choose an organization type that fits your interests and experience. Some types of organizations you may choose include; manufacturing, service (cleaning service), government operation, military operation, fast food, restaurant, healthcare, hospital, banking, gas station, sports venue, concert venue, department store, college department, work-out facility, etc. Please make sure that you explicitly state ( and briefly explain if necessary) the organization that you will use to apply the principles of Management Systems and Management Systems Auditing.

Chapter 1 Questions 

Q1. Describe the primary components of the management system for your chosen organization. Specifically describe the (a) Primary/core processes, (b) Key supporting processes, and (c) Management system supporting elements.

Q3. What are the primary value streams of your organization? 

Q4. List two (2) examples of waste in your organization and list two (2) examples of the benefits that the management system should provide for your organization.

Chapter 2 Questions

Q1. Provide specific examples of what an audit may “find” or “uncover” within your organization. Site one (1) example for each of the following: 

Conformance, i.e adhering to or NOT adhering to a policy or procedure

Improvement Opportunity, i.e a process that is operating correctly but could be improved

Best Practice, i.e. a process that produces superior results over similar process within the organization.

Effectiveness of Processes, i.e. a process that produces or does not produce intended results (defects)
