Science and religion are both very complex socially and culturally and they vary across times and cultures. Science is based on observations of nature and the natural world, it acknowledges reason and evidence. A scientific explanation must be based on some kind of experimentation. In scientism it is the belief that the best or only way to have any knowledge of reality is by means of science (Moreland and Craig, 2003), but this is contradicted by relativism, where truth is related to culture. Scientists say that things happen because of natural causes and if a scientist has a religious belief they assume that Gods do not interfere with nature, although some may belief that science and religion are interconnected, others think that they are parallel. Religion and science have been in conflict throughout history and are often a topic of discussion.

In most cases religious faith does not depend on empirical evidence, it usually involves natural and supernatural forces and this forces cannot be investigated by science. As a Christian believer and a health care provider, my perception of this tension is that science and religion are on opposite sides of the spectrum for many. In my opinion faith is an essential component for healing and wellbeing, we are seeing more and more spirituality and religion in medicine. We are using more meditation and prayer in healing. Many of us in the medical field rely and encourage prayer for benefits of health. According to the National Institute of Health (NIH) and National Center for Health Statistics prayer is a common practice and there is some evidence and connection between prayer and health outcomes.
