Morals and Ethics in Cartoons

Our readings tell us that cartoons hold so much more information than meets the eye. The situations faced by the characters teach us about morals and values in addition to providing daily humor.

Think about the cartoon Dilbert and his life in Corporate America. His white shirt and tie, and his use of humor, diffuse the monotony of his life behind the same desk using the same pencil each day.

In your local newspaper, online, on television, watch a cartoon or read a comic strip. Find an example with a moral or ethical dilemma, concern, or conflict.

In a brief 1-2 page essay, describe the character’s dilemma. Is it obvious or subtle? How is the dilemma resolved in the end? Is this an accurate portrayal of modern life?
