In this speech you, your goal will be to persuasive your audience to believe the same way you do or
to adopt a certain behavior. You must focus on being persuasive – you are no longer simply
informing your audience. You can take either a pro or con position on the topic that you’ve chosen.
As the final speech, you should bring together all the element of speechmaking we have discussed
and practiced throughout the semester, with a goal of presenting logical and compelling information
in a smooth and convincing delivery. While this speech is considered by many to be the most
challenging, this assignment can be a lot of fun for students.
Time: This speech should last seven (7) to ten (10) minutes. There will be a point deduction for
going both under and over these time requirements; you will lose half a point for every ten seconds
you are under or over time. Point deductions for going over the time limit will begin at the tenminute
mark.
Research: You are required to use a minimum of three (3) research resources for this speech.
Please see the “Guidelines & Requirements for Research Resources” document in the “Resources”
section of Modules 6 & 7 and the “Guidelines & Requirements for Research Resources” video
lecture in Module 6 for more information.
Required Content:
• You should start your speech by literally introducing yourself.
• Make sure your speech has a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Missing any one of
these components will result in a severe point deduction on your speech.
• Be sure to state your credibility to give a how to speech on this topic.
• You must have a call to action and persuasive language throughout your speech.

• A preparation outline (which includes a Reference page), Please ensure this works out to be a 7-10 minute speech. The slides must correspond so that I can use them as an aid.

As you think about a topic, remember to consider your comfort with and passion for the topic, your
ability to do research, the time requirements for the speech, your ability to establish and maintain
your credibility, where your audience stands on your topic, and the type of argument that you would
like to make. Remember that the purpose of this speech is to persuade, not simply to argue. You
may not be able to convert some or all the oppositional members in your audience in a seven to tenminute
span, but you can begin to weaken their commitment to their original position and better
understand and sympathize with your position
