#1: There are two learning objectives that I will compare and contrast. The hierarchy of needs is the first learning objective for motivation that I will discuss. I have the least prior knowledge about the hierarchy of needs that is why I will discuss that first. This theory was created a psychology professor named Abraham Maslow. This theory proposes that people are motivated by five levels of needs. Those needs are physiological, safety, love, esteem, and self actualization. I really like this theory about motivation because it really applies to a person’s life. Each level in the hierarchy of needs will have a impact on how motivated a person will be.The importance of Maslow’s contribution is that he showed that workers have needs beyond that of just earning a paycheck. The second learning objective for motivation that I will discuss will be the reinforcement approach to motivation. I think this learning objective is very important to employees and will be the most valuable in my future career. In the future I plan on working in business so the reinforcement theory will be something that keeps me on the right track in the workplace. This theory is an attempt to explain behavior change by suggesting that behavior with positive consequences tends to be repeated, whereas behavior with negative consequences tends not to be repeated. Reinforcement has four different types which are positive, negative, extinction, and punishment. Reinforcement is anything that causes a given behavior to be repeated or inhibited.

#2: Motivation is important in order to receive satisfactory results and commitment amongst employees. Both the hierarchy of needs theory and the reinforcement approaches are great tools that are used in the business field, especially management, that give information about how to improve the motivation amongst employees. The hierarchy of needs theory was introduced by Abraham Maslow and included five levels of needs. These five levels included physiological needs, safety needs, love needs, esteem needs, and self-actualization needs. This theory was introduced for those in the management field to understand that a job was more than just earning a paycheck. An employee needs to feel some levels on the hierarchy chart in order to remain committed within an organization. In addition, they need to steadily climb this hierarchy chart. Therefore, an organization needs to ensure that there are opportunities to reach higher goals in order to better progress the overall success of the business (Kinicki & Williams, 2018). The reinforcement approaches are going to be most valuable to the career path I pursue within the business management field. There are four approaches that include; the positive approach, the negative approach, the extinction approach, and the punishment approach. The first two approaches improve performance among employees, while the last two erode performance among employees. This information is useful in order to drive desirable behaviors from workers. This could be done by using different types of reinforcement tactics in order to make clear of what behavior is desired (Kinicki & Williams, 2018). Positive reinforcement would be my most used tactic out of the four. I would introduce different rewards to encourage employees to reach and exceed their goals. Also, I would ensure to praise positive behaviors displayed by individuals to encourage it to continue.
