EXAMPLE RESPONSE:

Based on the scenario, assess key roles of the lecture / discussion training method as it applies to today’s virtual era. Provide examples from the scenario and the textbook to support your rationale.

The lecture/discussion method uses two-way communication between the lecturer and the trainees to increase learning opportunities. This method is normally used to provide trainees basic information. It’s followed by a discussion among the trainees and between the trainees and the trainer that supports, reinforces, and expands upon the information presented in the lecture. Virtual training may be used in addition with content being delivered through a computer, using any combination of text, video, audio, chat rooms, or interactive assessment. It can be as basic as reading a text and answering quiz questions based on a computerized video.

•Analyze two to three specific benefits that students can derive from the addition of audiovisual enhancements to traditional training methods.

The addition of audiovisual enhancements assist in keeping me focused. Although I do believe standard lecture/discussion methods are beneficial, it can sometimes be a little boring to have a facilitator speak for the entire training. Few benefits that audiovisual enhancements may provide are:

*Increases learning effectiveness.

*Is more appealing than just traditional.

*Tailors information to trainees.

•Analyze at least two advantages and disadvantages of CBT. Provide examples to support your rationale.

Initial costs of setting up CBT’s can be expensive, especially if the company chooses to create a customized system. After those costs, CBT’s can provide the company with a 24 hour trainer that has virtually unlimited student capacity. Trainers and trainees no longer have the added expense of traveling for training, and a CBT system can be customized to focus on individual sections of material needed by each person being trained. Overall, the training costs and training time needed can be significantly lowered. CBT’s may also provide flexibility and comfort. It allows trainees to work at their own learning pace and style, both of which can be adjusted to match the individual needs of the trainee. Also, the immediate feedback of the CBT allows trainees to review sections of the material as needed.

Not everyone learns the same. Some trainees may enjoy the use of computer based training. Others however may prefer a classroom setting where trainees can share ideas with one another, and share experiences or get immediate answers from instructors. Others may feel comfortable with hands-on training. Unfortunately you cannot conduct hands-on training on a computer. Computer-based training can’t replace face-to-face interactions with customers, clients and coworkers.

•Based on the e-Activity, select a business of your choice, and assess the likelihood of virtual reality improving overall employee performance within that business.

In comparison to traditional training methods, I do believe that CBT’s are beneficial. My current employer uses CBT’s when introducing changes in policies, new services, etc. I’m able to complete the training at my own pace, take notes at my own pace, and if there happens to be important information I would like to hold onto, I’m able to print it out and keep for future reference.

I chose Verizon as my company of choice. Reason being is because I am a former employee. Verizon strictly uses traditional methods for training. Their methods do not cover all aspects of the job. Honestly, the training program focuses solely on system use. The system is an important aspect of the job; however the sales portion of the position is 85% of your everyday tasks. Verizon implementing the use of virtual learning would be extremely beneficial in a sense that the training can mimic the actual job environment. For some situations such as training Verizon employees for customer service, sales, spread sheets, etc, virtual learning is an appropriate choice for teaching skills. The tasks and situations Verizon trainees may face on the job can be simulated by the training software.
