- Research shows that judges in adult criminal courts impose a “juvenile penalty” during the sentencing process. That is, they tend to punish juveniles who have been transferred to adult court more harshly than young adults (nineteen- and twenty-year-olds) who have been convicted of similar crimes. Why do you think judges behave in this manner?
