Example of the expected structure

Political Corruption and Social Class Dilemmas in the Joker (example)

In the first few paragraphs, you are expected to introduce the issue and not the movie or the book yet. In this case, you are expected to start talking about these two issues a) political corruption, and b) social classes. You need to talk about them in an academic style. You also need to define what these issues are, and you need to argue why this issue or these issues are important. This should take a page or two.

In the next few paragraphs, you need to refer to three references that talk about the same issue that you are discussing. These references should be academic. I mean you should cite books or academic articles from peer-reviewed journals. You can find these through the library databases. This should take another page. You can also integrate using the sources from the beginning. In either case, you should paraphrase and use quotes from the references.

In the next few paragraphs, you should make a transition to talking about the movie/book. You need to start by summarizing the book/s or the movie/s. The summary should not be very brief but you should summarize the movie/book in a page or two.

In the next few paragraphs, you need to make an evaluation of the movie/book. Your evaluation should include connection between your discussion of the issue, your references, and how the movie/book is discussing the issue. Then you need to conclude your critical review with recommendations.

For this assignment I chose to do a movie review. I chose to do it on the movie Beautiful Boy starring Timothee Chalamet. The main topics that were discussed in this movie were Drug Addiction, as well as the effects that it has on relationships; for example: father and son. I attached the 3 articles that I chose as well. When writing the paragraphs that talk about the articles I chose, in the article itself you can use the beginning paragraphs where it talks about what they are studying as your citations. Once it starts to get into the actual study itself you don’t have to talk about that, you just have to briefly mention what the study was.
