Hiring Decisions: Motivation vs. Ability (20 points)

Discuss whether ability or motivation is more important in selecting the right person for the right job. Explain your rationale.

Respond to:

I think ability is more important in selecting the right person for the right job. The right person can be motivated through money/bonus, possibility of promotions, and other factors or benefits. A motivated person can be ambitious and excited to learn but may cost a company more time and money to train and bring up to speed. It would be great, from a company’s stand point, to have a candidate that possess both ability and motivation to do the job.
