Case Study
You will be reviewing a case study, “Improving inventory accuracy using RFID technology: a case study”
by Daniel Hellstro¨m and Mathias Wiberg from the Division of Packaging Logistics, Department of Design Sciences, Lund University, Lund, Sweden. It is based on some real applications.
Address the following questions:
1. How many gates or entry points for collecting or reading RFID data are included in the manufacturing process? Redraw the Production and assembly processes at PAGO and indicate where a reading device to detect the RFID tags would be placed.
2. Identify and describe the type of errors in the production and assembly process that could create waste (scrapped) or damaged products? Define if the error is human operator or machine generated.
3. Describe a new scenario of this operation where reverse logistics is also considered for damaged or waste or scrapped items. Describe this new role of information in such a reverse logistics operation for PAGO.
4. Then, make a recommendation to PAGO that would include the collection and use of RFID-based information in you review above.
