Assignment: Write a paper formatted in MLA style of five pages in length (use Times New Roman 12) that addresses the topic below.  You must include a Works Cited page.

 

Following the directions given in, write a definition essay.  Explain what your subject is, the similarities and differences between it and similar subjects, the qualities that some people may think are an essential part of the subject (but that are, in your definition, not), the manner in which the subject relates to the things around it (e.g. the effects of the subject on things, the effects its absence would have, etc.).

           

Consider the accidental qualities to be a starting point for a discussion of counter-arguments, though you may also address competing definitions that argue for different essential qualities in your counter-arguments, too.
